FAQ

Fleet and equipment financing, explained plainly

How does equipment financing work?

A business uses a loan or a lease to buy or lease the equipment it needs, instead of paying with business or personal funds. The equipment itself serves as collateral.

Can a newer business use equipment financing?

The OCC describes equipment financing as an option for start-up businesses as well as established ones, because the equipment secures the loan. The lender still makes the decision.

Can an SBA loan be used for equipment?

Yes. SBA 7(a) loans can be used for machinery and equipment, as well as working capital and other business needs. The maximum 7(a) loan amount is $5 million.

What about smaller amounts?

SBA microloans go up to $50,000 through nonprofit intermediary lenders, and can be used for machinery or equipment, among other things.

What do I need to start a request?

Your business name, your name, a ZIP code and an email or phone number, plus a few quick answers about the amount, the kind of business and how long it has been operating. We don’t ask for Social Security numbers or run a credit check through the form.
