FAQ
Invoice factoring, explained plainly
What is invoice factoring?
A business sells its unpaid invoices to a factoring company at a discount. The factoring company pays a lump sum, and the business can use that money right away as working capital.
Is factoring a loan?
Not exactly. The OCC describes factoring as an alternative to a small business loan: you sell the invoices rather than borrow against them.
How much of the invoice is paid up front?
The OCC describes the lump sum as usually between 70 and 90 percent of the invoice total. The funder sets the actual terms after its review.
What does the application ask for?
Your business name, your name and email, and how many people will sign. If more than one owner or officer will sign, it asks for each person’s email. It does not ask for Social Security numbers or bank details, and there is no credit check through the form.
